Why do I need to know about this?
Although we are young it is important for us to know of the catholic churches stance and beliefs that surround the foundation belief that all life is sacred. Often abortion will affect more teenagers than adults because teen pregnancy is one of the main factors in abortion. It is important for us to be able to understand more about this so that if we are ever put in a situation like this we understand that there are options. The button project shows what abortion can do to a person involved, male or female and underlines the fact that most people are not informed enough abut the decision.
Even though euthanasia is a foreign concept for us personally as teenagers it is possible that it might be a situation that someone close to us is put in. Maybe your grandparents or a sick member or friend of your family could be put into the situation where they need to make the decision on euthanasia and if you are a part of this decision it is important for teenagers to be aware of every factor and option that the Catholic Church can give you.

Abortion:
Some believe that a fetus is not a baby. However the Catholic church believes that life begins during conception, and this is why, as long as no harm is going to come to the mother as a result of the birth of the baby, abortion is condemned within the Church. Because, if the fetus is considered as the beginning of life then the killing of that fetus is taking an innocent life. And all life is sacred, we are made in Gods image and so it is not ours to take. In the 'Congregation of the doctrine of faith' verse 5 (19) it says that "God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can, in any circumstance, claim for himself the right to destroy directly an innocent human being." (Donum vitae) This means that God is the only one who has the right to take a life, She is the giver of life and so from the beginning to the end of the spectrum of life She is the only one who truly appreciates that our life is sacred. "But completely above the value of all these in the eyes of God and of an himself is the value of a human life." - New Zealand Bishops statement |

Euthanasia:
In the Churches view all life is considered sacred, God is the the Creator, She created life and only God has the right to decide when our life is complete.
Nehemiah 9:6
"You alone are the LORD. You have made the heavens, the heaven of heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it. The seas and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, and the heavenly host bows down before You.
This Bible verse shows us that God is the Creator, if we take a life we take the place of God and we take away the gift of God. The Church believes that you may not kill another person because it is not your life to take, euthanasia is condemned within the Church.
But also because euthanasia is the first step. The first step to what...
After euthanasia is legalized the problem is what happens next. Its a slippery slope to travel down. We could begin with euthanizing the terminally ill, and then it might descend down to euthanizing the chronically ill, and then the handi capped or the elderly. Even little babies who have no say in what happens to them could be euthanized if some else decides it is necessary.
And this is where we have the problem, The catholic church believes that all life is sacred and equal, and if this is true then how is it possible that we are able to take someones life when its not ours to take.
